Scott MacKay, Probe's president and founder, is retiring. And we want to share a heartfelt thank you and happy retirement as we mark a milestone and celebrate Scott's success and accomplishments turning our company into what it is today.

After founding Probe in September 1994, Scott built this company quickly from a sole proprietorship to become one of Canada’s most respected public opinion research firms.

Scott pioneered many things during his time at Probe. He built Probe’s profile through our valued work with the Winnipeg Free Press – a partnership that endures to this day as we help Manitobans understand the important issues and voting dynamics affecting our province.

Scott had the foresight to see how important water would be as both a public policy issue and a consumer good, which prompted Probe to conduct syndicated research in Canada and the U.S. on this topic. This led to significant work in the most arid parts of the continent, where we have been proud to help decision-makers understand the public opinion dynamics of drought and water scarcity.

In late 2018, Scott brought in partners to strengthen this work. Longtime employee Curtis Brown and former Free Press journalist Mary Agnes Welch became principals and guided the company’s day-to-day management and its strategic growth.

With Scott’s retirement, Curtis and Mary Agnes are now the co-owners and partners of Probe Research. While our practice will continue to evolve, our focus on building deep client relationships, producing creative insights and using innovative approaches remains unchanged.
